The Quilt House

Peggy has only been quilting for a year but has really caught the bug. (See more of her work on the testimonial page). Her most recent quilt, which she designed herself is a bookcase quilt. To do justice to the design, each book is individually ditch-stitched, with a little stippling in the background. I designed a simple border to complement the rest of the quilt. Peggy is going to embroider book titles on the spines of the books.

How can I help you?

The Quilt House

Professional long-arm quilting service.

The Quilt House offers a number of services to help you complete your quilts.

  • Edge-to-edge (E2E). E2E is where a design is placed over the whole surface of the quilt, irrespective of the pattern used to create  the quilt top. This produces a beautiful quilted appearance while being cost effective.
  • Custom quilting Custom quilting is where different quilting patterns are used in different sections of the quilt top depending on the piecing design. I custom quilt by hand-guiding the machine and by using the Intelliquilter to stitch designs.Custom quilting is very labour intensive and therefore costs more.
  • Basting This very useful service is used to prepare your quilt top for hand quilting. A 4 inch grid pattern is stitched over the quilt, stabilising the quilt and holding the 3 layers together until it is hand quilted. No more bending over the table or crawling around on your hands and knees!
  • Binding  Various binding services are available.Binding can be made and machined to your quilt, or you can provide the binding already made and I can machine it on for you. All corners are mitred. I can stitch it onto the reverse side by hand or you can do this yourself.
  • Batting  Different battings quilt differently and give rise to a different appearance. I recommend and can supply Matilda's Own 60/40 (wool/polyester) batting. This has a medium loft ("puffiness") and has been pre-washed and pre-shrunk so it produces a durable quilt which is able to be machine washed.  You are also welcome to supply your own batting. I am able to join batting pieces for you for a small charge. Please inquire if you are interested in this service.
  • Mail order service The Quilt House is located in Vermont South (eastern side of Melbourne). If it is not convenient for you to visit in person, I provide a full mail order service using Australia Post, which offers insurance, signature on delivery and a tracking system. To calculate the cost of delivery, go to http://auspost.com.au/apps/postage-calculator.html (A large quilt, including batting, backing and binding weighs about 3kg). I also use Sendle, a courier service.

My aim is to provide a service which meets your specific needs. Please feel free to ring me or contact me via the contact link on the top toolbar to discuss how I can help you.
